Top Steam Game Bongo Cat: Less Profit, More Exposure
Bongo Cat, a unique game on Steam, thrives in popularity despite generating minimal revenue.
Bongo Cat is currently one of the most played games on Steam, holding the 5th position in popularity.
However, according to Marcel Zurawka, CEO of Irox Games, the game’s financial performance is lackluster. Despite its 170,000 players, it generates only around $3000 a month, leading Zurawka to say, “Some people said, ‘Oh you’re now rich.’ That’s bullshit. I didn’t make it for the money at all.”
Zurawka emphasizes that although the game may not be profitable, its fame serves as a fantastic marketing tool for his studio, consolidating interest in future projects. He explained, “Before, we knocked on 50 doors; now, they are coming to us.”
Bongo Cat’s charm lies in its whimsical nature, allowing users to interact with a playful cat on their desktop, earning hats and engaging with a simple gameplay loop. Despite the financial drawbacks, Zurawka remains committed to the game’s original free-to-play model.
