Climb to Success: How Peak was Born in a Korean Game Jam
Discover the exciting journey behind the comedy climbing game Peak, developed during a fast-paced game jam that began with a pitch in a hot tub.
The Making of Peak
Peak, a vibrant climbing game that’s been making waves, emerged through the collaboration of indie game developers. Created as a joyous joint venture between Aggro Crab, known for ‘Another Crab’s Treasure’, and Landfall, the team unlocked a whirlwind of innovation during a game jam in Korea.
“While it was pretty intense, it was also the most fun I’ve ever had working on a game.”
When Nick Kaman, studio head of Aggro Crab, first learned about the accelerated development methods used in Landfall’s jam, it provoked a surge of inspiration, reshaping their perceptions of game development.
In just four weeks, the team locked themselves away in an Airbnb in Hongdae, Seoul, focusing solely on crafting Peak. They even set up an office from IKEA to stay dedicated.
As Kaman recalls, the impetus for the game’s inception came during a hot tub pitch in Sweden, where ideas flowed about portraying a group of lost scouts embroiled in humorous misadventures.
