Level Zero: Extraction Development Concludes Abruptly After Two Weeks since Launch

The multiplayer extraction survival horror game Level Zero: Extraction has ceased development just weeks after its launch due to financial constraints.

Just two weeks after launching on Steam, multiplayer extraction survival horror shooter Level Zero: Extraction has reached the end of the road. In a message posted to Steam, community manager Antishyr stated that the game has “underperformed compared to our expectations,” and thus “it’s no longer feasible for our relatively small teams to sustain the game from a financial standpoint.”

“As the project’s community manager, on behalf of [developer] DogHowl and [publisher] tinyBuild, I’m informing you that Level Zero: Extraction has reached the state that will, most probably, be its final form for the time being.” - Antishyr Translation: Antishyr expresses that the project has reached its final phase due to financial difficulties.

Level Zero: Extraction aimed to blend the extraction shooter and asymmetrical horror genres. However, the project faced considerable challenges. According to Antishyr, the final patch for the game was released on January 30th, 2025.

The game initially started in 2022 as Level Zero, where players battled against xenomorph-like aliens. It was later revamped as Level Zero: Extraction, shifting focus to a more conventional gameplay style, featuring mercenaries instead of scientists.

Despite attempts to innovate, the game fell short, with a peak player count of just over 2,600 during early access in August 2024, which rapidly dwindled to under 100 by mid-October. The official release in January did not significantly improve the numbers.

Level Zero: Extraction’s servers will remain active, allowing ongoing gameplay without further updates planned from the developers, who intend to leverage the knowledge gained from this project in their future multiplayer initiatives.
