French Voice Actor for Lara Croft Takes Action Against AI Voiceovers in Tomb Raider Remaster

Françoise Cadol, the French voice of Lara Croft, has reportedly issued a cease and desist order to Aspyr regarding AI-generated voice lines in remastered Tomb Raider games.

As reported by TheGamer and Le Parisien, Françoise Cadol, the former French voice of Lara Croft, has issued a cease and desist against Aspyr concerning AI-generated voice lines in the remasters of Tomb Raiders 4, 5, and 6.

Lene Bastos, the Brazilian Portuguese voice actor for this segment of the series, has also expressed concerns regarding her performance being altered in this manner. Additional localizations may have been impacted, according to reports from TheGamer and the French Tomb Raider fan account, Tomb Raider Files.

“This is a genuine insult to the work of actress Françoise Cadol, who advocates against the use of AI in creative fields, as many actors do, especially with the action TouchePasMaVF,” said a Twitter post.

Aspyr appears to be taking steps to address these issues, although they have not released an official statement. I have reached out to Aspyr for further clarification and will update this report once a response is received.

The recent modifications seem to stem from an August 18 patch to the remastering project, which followed a successful remaster of the initial three Tomb Raider titles in 2024. Notably, comparisons have emerged showcasing prior lines against their updated versions from the French dub, shared by Tomb Raider Files.
