Neil Druckmann Hints at 'Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet' Becoming Naughty Dog's Most Expensive Game

Naughty Dog's Neil Druckmann reveals that the upcoming title could lead the studio's production history in terms of budget.

The upcoming game Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet could potentially be the priciest project ever undertaken by Naughty Dog, as per Co-Director Neil Druckmann. Throughout its history, this studio has launched several high-budget AAA games, including the renowned The Last of Us Part 2 and Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End.

In December 2024 at The Game Awards, Naughty Dog introduced Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, marking its engagement with a new original IP after more than ten years. The initial reveal showcased the main character Jordan A. Mun and introduced a unique ’80s-inspired aesthetic. Druckmann expressed his excitement for the narrative, labeling it as “the most creative” story conceived by the team up to now, and hinted that it might become their most ambitious project.

In an interview with Variety, he discussed the development’s progress, stating they were actively working on the game, implying some components were already playable. He reaffirmed his belief that it is both Naughty Dog’s most substantial and expansive project to date, foreseeing it might require an unprecedented budget to complete.

Currently, The Last of Us Part 2 holds the title for Naughty Dog’s most significant financial commitment, exceeding $220 million. With increasing production costs and a star-studded cast involved in Intergalactic, it may not be long before this new title surpasses that amount. Developers typically keep their budgets a trade secret, so the specific cost of this endeavor remains undisclosed.
