CEO Addresses Concerns About Helldivers 2's Large PC File Size

Arrowhead Game Studios' CEO discusses the growing file size of Helldivers 2, currently at 140 GB, and acknowledges player frustrations.

Arrowhead Game Studios’ CEO, Shams Jorjani, has tackled the ongoing debate regarding Helldivers 2’s substantial PC file size, which currently sits at approximately 140 GB and appears to be increasing with each update.

Players have expressed their concerns about the size, accusing the developer of not taking adequate measures to mitigate the issue. The complaints regarding both the file size and declining performance have intensified, troubling some users.

CEO’s Response to the File Size Issue

In a recent discussion on the Helldivers 2 Discord, Jorjani acknowledged the question about the game’s escalating file size, stating that the studio has elevated the importance of addressing this concern: “We’ve escalated the priority of this. But I can’t tell you when it will be addressed.” While it’s promising that the developers recognize the issue and plan to tackle it in a forthcoming update, the lack of a timeline only adds to the players’ frustrations.

For context, Helldivers 2 on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S requires just over 35 GB, highlighting a significant difference in storage demands between platforms.

Despite concerns over the large file size, Helldivers 2 continues to flourish. After its recent launch on Xbox Series X/S, the game quickly rose to become the top paid title on the platform, nearing one million sales. Players continue to voice their frustrations while enjoying the reasons that have made Helldivers 2 one of the standout live service games since its early launch last year.
