Obsidian Entertainment, known for its critically acclaimed RPGs, is navigating the complexities of game development under the ownership of Microsoft.
In a recent statement, Brandon Adler, the game director, acknowledged the irony of creating an anti-corporate game under a mega-corporation. “It’d be ridiculous to say that we don’t notice that,” he noted, adding that while the studio embraces the humor in this juxtaposition, it maintains creative control over the game.
Leonard Boyarsky, creative director, emphasized that Microsoft has not imposed any restrictions on their storytelling, stating, “The people we work with really love the game, so no dictates or anything like that.”
Despite these assurances, some skepticism lingers regarding how an anti-corporate narrative will resonate with a title published by one of the biggest corporations in the tech industry.
