Marvel Rivals Developers to Create Original Characters: A Controversial Move
The developers behind Marvel Rivals have received the green light to create their own characters, prompting questions about the direction of the game.
Marvel Rivals developers have been granted permission to introduce their own original characters, as shared in an interview snippet with Guangyun Chen during a tournament in China.
“Yes, we are allowed to introduce original characters in Marvel Rivals,” Chen stated, adding that players should “stay tuned” for potential future developments.
It’s worth noting that new characters from secondary media can eventually become popular staples; for instance, Luna Snow was introduced in Marvel Future Fight in 2018, later becoming a fan favorite.
However, some fans question this decision, arguing that Marvel Rivals has yet to explore the vast array of existing comic characters, suggesting that the focus should remain on those instead of introducing new ones.
Moreover, despite the current creator’s freedom, there’s skepticism regarding NetEase’s direction regarding character creation and whether this move aligns with players’ expectations.
As the game continues to evolve, it will be interesting to see how the developers balance new characters with the beloved heroes and villains of the Marvel universe.
