BioWare Veteran Joins Bethesda, Bringing Hope for The Elder Scrolls 6
John Dombrow, a notable figure from BioWare, has made the transition to Bethesda Game Studios as a Senior Quest Designer, a move anticipated to enhance the development of The Elder Scrolls 6.
In what can be interpreted as positive news for The Elder Scrolls 6, John Dombrow, a seasoned professional formerly with BioWare, has joined Bethesda Game Studios in the capacity of Senior Quest Designer. This recent development is expected to leverage Dombrow’s expertise as he contributes to The Elder Scrolls 6 after his recent tenure as a Senior Writer for Sucker Punch Productions’ upcoming project, Ghost of Yotei.
During more than 12 years at BioWare split across two periods, Dombrow was instrumental in crafting several key experiences within the studio. He notably contributed as a Senior Writer to the celebrated Mass Effect 3, particularly on the pivotal Priority: Tuchanka mission, and created characters like Garrus and Javik. Furthermore, he served as Co-Lead Writer for the game’s Citadel DLC and later for Mass Effect: Andromeda. Most recently, he held the position of Senior Narrative Designer on Dragon Age Veilguard, while also briefly contributing to projects such as Telltale’s Game of Thrones and Ghost of Yotei.
Recent reports indicate that Dombrow’s LinkedIn profile was updated to reflect his new role at Bethesda, transitioning into this position in August 2025. His involvement is timely, considering the ongoing development of The Elder Scrolls 6, signaling a potential for his influence on the game’s quest design. Dombrow’s rich background, particularly with Mass Effect and Dragon Age, positions him to positively impact the quest structure.
However, Bethesda’s recent releases, including Fallout 4 and Starfield, have faced critique for their storytelling and quest design compared to older titles like Oblivion and Skyrim. Although the title of Senior Quest Designer implies a focus away from writing directly, Dombrow’s vast experience might still support improvements in this critical area.
Seven years have now passed since the announcement of The Elder Scrolls 6, with little communication from Bethesda about the game’s specifics, including its setting. Gamers are optimistic that further updates on the highly anticipated sequel are forthcoming.
