Mark Darrah Urges New Mass Effect Team to Learn from Veilguard's Failures
Mark Darrah emphasizes the importance of learning from the missteps of Dragon Age: The Veilguard for the upcoming Mass Effect project.
The future of BioWare is clouded with uncertainty after the divisive launch of Dragon Age: The Veilguard. Mark Darrah, a former executive producer, believes that the development team now focusing on a new sequel for Mass Effect should take lessons from Veilguard’s shortcomings. He asserts, “To be frank, the Mass Effect team will be able to refer to The Veilguard and say, ‘we should avoid some of these issues, because look what happened.’” Darrah recommends that the new team should “scapegoat Veilguard as much as they need to obtain the resources they require for success.”
Darrah, who left BioWare in 2020, reflects on the disjointed development processes that often plague multi-project environments. He suggests that eliminating internal rivalries between projects might yield better outcomes, despite the team’s reduced size. This insight comes as the studio concentrates all its efforts on the much-anticipated next installment of Mass Effect, hoping to recover from the setbacks faced by Dragon Age: The Veilguard.
