Sony CFO Acknowledges Challenges in Live Service Adjustments Post-Marathon and Concord
Sony's CFO admits the company's transition towards live service games has faced hurdles, but highlights ongoing successes like Helldivers 2 and Destiny 2.
Live service games are known for their risks, and during a recent Q&A, Sony’s CFO Lin Tao provided insights (via VGC). Tao discussed the public concerns surrounding titles like Marathon and Concord, stating that while some negative feedback has emerged, the company is still seeing progress in the last five years, thanks to titles like Helldivers 2, MLB The Show, Gran Turismo 7, and Destiny 2.
“Somewhat negative news has been coming out,” Tao acknowledged. “But if we look at the past five years, five years ago live service games were almost non-existent for PlayStation Studios. We now have these four titles contributing to sales and profits in a stable manner.”
