Neil Newbon, who voiced Astarion in Baldur's Gate 3, expresses satisfaction that Larian Studios won't be making a sequel, emphasizing the importance of passion in game development.
Neil Newbon, the voice behind Astarion in Baldur’s Gate 3, expressed his relief that its developer, Larian Studios, will not produce a sequel. While this revelation might surprise fans, Newbon has valid reasons for his stance.
Larian Studios invested nearly a decade into Baldur’s Gate 3, making it a celebrated title in recent gaming history. The game offers rich D&D experiences for both solo and multiplayer audiences, accommodating varied play styles, enhancing replayability.
In a recent interview on the Arcade Hang show hosted by Radio Times Gaming, Newbon remarked, “Larian’s heart wasn’t in making another game or even DLC; they were exhausted but happy…it felt like that chapter is closed now.” He commended Larian for prioritizing passion over profit, suggesting that creating a sequel without enthusiasm could lead to negative outcomes for the franchise.
Despite wanting to explore his character further and hopes for a live-action portrayal, Newbon realizes even the best creations shouldn’t be rushed. He highlighted the importance of maintaining the integrity and heart of what made Baldur’s Gate 3 special, indicating that a sequel should have a thoughtful approach, especially with potential contributions from the original writing team.
