Splitgate 2 Faces Shutdown, Original Game to Close
1047 Games announces the unlaunch of Splitgate 2 amidst layoffs and the impending shutdown of the original Splitgate.
Splitgate 2 Unlaunched, Splitgate 1 Shut Down
1047 Games confirmed that Splitgate 2 will be unlaunched and Splitgate 1 will be shut down due to layoffs, affecting over 40 employees at the studio. Despite a strong beta performance, Splitgate 2 struggled to achieve player numbers comparable to the original game’s peak on Steam.
Players expressed disappointment over high microtransaction costs and ongoing issues following the June 6 launch. Subsequently, the studio did reduce those costs in response to feedback but found that player engagement remained low. As a result, they decided to revisit Splitgate 2 and make significant changes before relaunching.
In a statement via Twitter, the co-founders acknowledged the hasty launch and admitted it was premature, pledging to incorporate community feedback moving forward. They disclosed the tough decision to reduce staff to refocus efforts on the game’s development.
Next Steps
1047 Games plans to return Splitgate 2 to beta for enhancement updates and more community engagement before a proper relaunch expected in 2026. Meanwhile, they will explore options for offline play in the original Splitgate to preserve its community.
Future Updates
As they shift resources, the original game is set to shut down in approximately a month. Developers are working on supporting offline capabilities or peer-to-peer options so players can continue to enjoy Splitgate 1 even after official servers are no longer available.
