The director of Final Fantasy 14, Naoki Yoshida, has expressed significant admiration for The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom. This commendation emerged after his recent appearance at Anime Expo where he served as a Guest of Honor for his contributions to Final Fantasy and other titles throughout the years.

Although Echoes of Wisdom has been well-received by both gamers and critics, it may not top many fans’ lists as their preferred Zelda game on the Nintendo Switch. Nonetheless, it stands alongside major titles like Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, which were massive successes at their launch.

In an interview with the Japanese publication Famitsu, Yoshida remarked on the significance of Echoes of Wisdom. He highlighted the innovative approach of reusing existing assets, which enabled developers to concentrate their efforts on enhancing gameplay. He noted that this achievement was facilitated by a collaborative effort between seasoned veterans and newer developers.

Yoshida acknowledged that while the game may not have garnered as much attention as its predecessors, it still provided an enjoyable experience and addressed long-standing calls for Zelda to take center stage as the main character in a game.

By late September 2024, Echoes of Wisdom had sold over 2.58 million copies, marking it as a successful addition to the esteemed franchise.
