'The fans did not impact' Karlach's enhanced ending in Baldur's Gate 3, states voice actor Samantha Béart—Larian had to navigate Starfield, but it was all 'very much planned'

Samantha Béart, the voice actor for Karlach in Baldur's Gate 3, clarifies that fan feedback did not dictate her character's ending—plans for it were set well in advance.

In a recent interview, Samantha Béart, the voice actor behind Karlach in Baldur’s Gate 3, clarified the misconceptions surrounding the character’s enhanced ending. Béart emphasized that fan feedback did not influence her return to record additional lines for her character’s epilogue, stating, “‘The fans had no influence on me coming back for that. That was on the table as soon as it was out.’”

The actress noted that the timing of the game’s release was strategically planned to avoid competition from Starfield, as Larian Studios moved the launch date up by a month. Béart explained that there was no expectation that players would rush to complete the game as quickly as they did, leading to additional recordings shortly after launch. She humorously recalled receiving the call to return while players were busy customizing their characters.

According to Béart, the development team had already envisioned the updated ending prior to the official release, effectively dispelling the notion that it was a response to fan outcry. “It was very much planned…people might think there was a significant influence, but all of it was anticipated and playtested before getting released.”

Thus, Karlach’s new conclusion, which presents her lighting a cigarette and charging into battle, reflects Larian’s commitment to crafting narratively fulfilling content long before community demands came into play.
