Voice Acting Strike Halted as SAG-AFTRA Reaches Tentative Deal with Game Producers

After nearly a year of striking, voice actors from the SAG-AFTRA union are returning to work as they find common ground with major game companies.

After almost a year on the picket lines, SAG-AFTRA members are set to return to their roles in gaming as the union has reached a tentative agreement with significant gaming firms.

This development follows their strike that initiated in July 2024, which was driven by demands for fair compensation and the right to consent in relation to AI use involving their likenesses. Today, the union announced that all members are to resume work across various productions, including promotional activities tied to projects within the Interactive Media Agreement (IMA).

While the strike is termed “suspended” rather than formally ended, indicating that final acceptance by the members is still pending, it does signify a major step forward in negotiations. The SAG-AFTRA National Board is convening to examine the agreement soon, with details on the terms set to be unveiled following membership ratification.

In a statement, spokesperson Audrey Cooling highlighted the agreement’s provision of historical wage increases exceeding 24% along with improved health safety protocols. This contract not only acknowledges the contributions of the SAG-AFTRA performers but also incorporates vital transparency and consent measures regarding digital replications used in gaming.
