Splitgate 2 Executive Takes Aim at Former Call of Duty Developer Over Pricing

Ian Proulx addresses concerns over the new $80 bundle and the pricing strategy while acknowledging miscommunication within the team.

The head of 1047 Games, Ian Proulx, has addressed the recent backlash regarding the $80 store bundle in Splitgate 2. Proulx noted that this pricing strategy, which was later reduced following fan criticism, was not properly communicated within the team.

During a recent video release, he shared:

“When I got off stage at the Summer Game Fest, I immediately contacted our lead designer Darek Jones to express my surprise at the existence of the $80 bundle. I had no prior knowledge of this, and it simply doesn’t make sense.”
Translation: I was caught off guard by the bundle’s price and was unaware of it until after my appearance at the event.

He attributed the miscommunication to the former head of monetization, who had previously worked on Call of Duty and was quite aggressive regarding pricing.

As Proulx explained, the team has since re-evaluated their pricing strategies. He acknowledged mistakes but emphasized the need for improved team communication to prevent future oversights. Going forward, Proulx has instituted weekly meetings with key members of the design team to ensure he is updated on all upcoming changes for the store and gameplay playlists, aiming to avoid similar issues in the future.
