MindsEye Scheduled to Release Next Week Amid High-Profile Executive Departures
The launch of MindsEye nears, but the studio faces uncertainty with two key executives leaving the company.
The saga surrounding MindsEye, the debut game from Leslie Benzies and his studio Build a Rocket Boy, has taken another surprising turn. As reported by Eurogamer, the studio’s Chief Financial Officer and Chief Legal Officer have both departed just a week before the game’s release.
Former Chief Legal Officer Riley Graebner announced his resignation via a LinkedIn post, stating: “After three and a half years my time at BARB has come to a close. I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished. During that time we more than doubled the size of the company to over 450 employees. We launched multiple products worldwide. We built the legal team and legal ops infrastructure from the ground up, working to systemize and automate.”
Paul Bland, the CFO, updated his LinkedIn profile to note his departure but has since altered or removed his profile, raising further questions about the situation.
The studio’s co-CEO, Mark Gerhard, had recently stirred controversy by claiming that negative reactions to MindsEye were part of a “concerted effort to undermine the game and the studio” funded by unidentified sources.
MindsEye is scheduled to launch on June 10, with the Path Forward yet to be clearly defined as key figures leave the team at a critical moment.
