Have you ever faced a situation where your USB Type-C cable failed to connect your second monitor? Microsoft is working to eliminate this common issue by implementing a new system to ensure that USB ports function correctly.
According to the Microsoft USB Blog, Ugan Sivagnanenthirarajah outlined the reasoning behind this move and detailed how Microsoft plans to implement it.
Microsoft aims to ensure that USB data, charging, and display functionalities operate seamlessly across all USB Type-C ports. The company has set new standards for manufacturers to achieve before they can obtain Windows approval for their devices. This includes providing full compatibility with USB4 and Thunderbolt 3 peripherals for 40 Gbps ports.
To certify as USB4, ports must support up to 40 Gbps data speed or higher, provide sufficient power for accessories, and support dual 4K displays and Thunderbolt 3 compatibility. This initiative seeks to reduce the confusion about different USB ports that may appear identical but offer varying functionalities.
In a time of layoffs and scrutiny due to various controversies, this move is seen as a positive step for Microsoft.
