People Can Fly Freezes Development on Two Unannounced Titles Amid Layoffs
People Can Fly announces the suspension of two games and staff reductions following a failed publisher deal.
People Can Fly has disclosed that it is indefinitely halting development on two of its games following financial struggles exacerbated by a failed publisher agreement.
In a candid message, CEO Sebastian Wojciechowski outlined the situation:
“The suspension of the Gemini project is a consequence of the fact that the Publisher has not presented us with a draft of the subsequent content rider to the Publishing Agreement covering the terms and conditions of further milestones on project Gemini and the lack of communication from the Publisher as to its willingness to continue or terminate the Gemini project.”
(Translation: The game’s publisher has not provided necessary documentation, leading to this project’s suspension.)
“Project Bifrost was suspended due to above reasons and an analysis of the Group’s cash flow, which showed a lack of prospects for securing organizational resources and funds necessary to continue production and release of this project.”
(Translation: Bifrost’s development was halted due to financial constraints.)
The announcement further confirmed that the studio would also reduce its workforce due to these project cancellations. Wojciechowski expressed regret over the situation, stating,
“We wish to express our deepest regret and sadness over how these events have unfolded and our sincere gratitude for everyone’s contribution up to this point.”
(Translation: We feel sorry about how this situation has developed and appreciate everyone’s efforts.)
Despite these setbacks, People Can Fly continues to progress on other projects, including a collaboration on the upcoming Gears of War prequel, E-Day, and several other unannounced titles.
