Insights from Helldivers 2 and Palworld developers on the complexities of game development and player expectations.

Game developers Johan Pilestedt from Arrowhead and John Buckley from Palworld recently shared thoughts on why some player-requested features in their games might be harder to implement than expected.

Both developers expressed frustration with assumptions made by players, like the ease of adding features such as a crime system, which they clarified can take months of effort.

Buckley pointed out, “A new island in Palworld takes half a year to develop,” to illustrate the time-consuming nature of these updates. He added that some players may not realize the complexities behind development processes, which can lead to negative feedback during those long development periods.
