Randy Pitchford Promises an Exciting Future for Borderlands 4 While Teasing Pricing
Gearbox CEO discusses the anticipated release of Borderlands 4, emphasizing its increased development budget and engaging with the community about gameplay expectations.
“Borderlands 4 has more than double the development budget of Borderlands 3. Over double.”
Gearbox Software’s co-founder and CEO, Randy Pitchford, is generating buzz around the upcoming Borderlands 4, claiming it will be the best installment yet. He is actively engaging with critics online, urging fans to “play the game first” before making judgments about the new features, including a minimap-free HUD that some are doubting. Pitchford humorously reflected on the game’s expansive design, suggesting that players will be able to access distant locations on the screen with ease.
During a discussion at PAX East, Pitchford expressed that the development team is currently in an energetic phase, reinforcing that this game is crucial for him right now. He stated, “I don’t think we’ve ever been in a better position this far from launch with Borderlands 4. It’s a thrilling time, and I truly need a game like this.”
Interestingly, the release date for Borderlands 4 was recently moved up from September 23 to September 12, hinting at the team’s confidence in their progress. However, Pitchford noted that the game’s pricing remains uncertain, reflecting ongoing discussions about market competition and production costs in the gaming industry. He joked, “If it’s cheaper, maybe we’ll sell you that minimap that you guys want for a fee later on.”
