Ted Price Steps Down as Insomniac's Leader After 30 Years in Gaming

Insomniac Games' founder Ted Price announces retirement, noting it’s time for new leadership to take the reins.

After a prolific career spanning over 30 years, Ted Price, founder and CEO of Insomniac Games, has announced his retirement effective at the end of March 2024. Price expressed that it was time to allow new leadership to guide the team.

Insomniac Games was established in 1994, and its breakout title, Spyro the Dragon, solidified the studio’s reputation shortly after the release of their debut title, Disruptor. Over the years, Insomniac developed hits like Ratchet and Clank, Resistance, and the celebrated Marvel’s Spider-Man series.

In 2022, Price advocated for Sony to permit studios to make public statements regarding abortion rights ahead of the Roe v. Wade overturn, although Sony did not concede to this request. However, Insomniac contributed $50,000 to the Women’s Reproductive Rights Assistance Project, which Sony matched.

Ted Price will be succeeded by three co-studio heads: Chad Dezern, Ryan Schneider, and Jen Huang, who have all played pivotal roles in the evolution of Insomniac. Price lauded their ability to collaborate effectively and emphasized his trust in their leadership moving forward.

He concluded by sharing his enthusiasm for eventually experiencing Insomniac’s upcoming games as a player rather than a developer, expressing that he aims to move beyond the habit of mentally debugging during play.
