Semiwork's Bold Move with REPO: A Shift in Game Development

After its prior game, Voidigo, fell flat, Semiwork adopted an innovative strategy with REPO, aiming for quick failure to ensure future success.

In the evolving landscape of gaming, Semiwork found itself navigating tricky waters after the lackluster performance of Voidigo. Seeking to shift gears and adopt a refreshing method, the studio embraced a mindset of rapid experimentation with their latest title, REPO.

From Failure to Fast Learning

Instead of being bogged down by its predecessor’s slow development timeline, taking six years to craft, co-founders Pontus Sundström and Walter Tischkewitz have vowed to move more swiftly this time. As Tischkewitz articulated in a recent developer update, “Let’s just fail quickly this time,” underscoring their resolve to pivot quickly if needed.

REPO: An Indie Sensation

REPO, a co-op horror game, surprisingly captured the audience, achieving an “overwhelmingly positive” rating on Steam, reflecting the enthusiasm of a growing player base.

As the studio explores this new territory, their pragmatic yet open strategy could define the future of indie gaming development.
