Long-time D&D Designer Christopher Perkins Announces Retirement from Wizards of the Coast

Christopher Perkins bids farewell to Wizards of the Coast after a remarkable 28-year tenure, playing a pivotal role in the evolution of Dungeons & Dragons.

Christopher Perkins, a leading figure in Dungeons & Dragons, has officially retired after 28 remarkable years at Wizards of the Coast.

With the 50th anniversary of D&D and the immense success of revised rulebooks coinciding with his retirement, Perkins sees this as a fitting endpoint to his career. He stated:

“Today I retire from Wizards after 28 years. With D&D’s 50th anniversary wrapping up and the revised rulebooks doing gangbusters, this is the perfect fairytale ending for me. I can’t wait to enjoy D&D purely as a fan again, knowing the game’s in good hands. See you in the Feywild!”
(Translation: I look forward to enjoying D&D as a fan, knowing it is in capable hands.)

While he has been associated with some critical discussions around the game in recent years, Perkins leaves behind an influential legacy, having shaped D&D prominently since its acquisition by Wizards in 1997. Prior to that, he penned adventures for Dungeon Magazine during the 1980s.

Perkins’ career highlights include leading story design on the iconic Curse of Strahd, witnessing it become one of the most renowned modules in the D&D universe. He also gained acclaim as the Dungeon Master for popular actual-play shows, including Acquisitions Incorporated.

In Conclusion: Perkins’ departure signals a significant change at Wizards of the Coast as the company transitions into new leadership while aiming to maintain its game’s enduring popularity.
