Samantha Béart Critiques AI in Gaming Industry

Actor Samantha Béart expresses concerns over AI's growing role in game development, particularly its impact on artistic integrity.

In a recent interview with Edge magazine, actor Samantha Béart - noted for her role as Karlach in Baldur’s Gate 3 - expressed her strong criticism towards the push for AI-generated performances in gaming. She stated,

“Essentially, [CEOs pushing AI] just want to save money. In the long term, it’ll destroy their reputation, their company, everything.”

This stance reflects her ongoing skepticism about artists in the industry accepting AI tools, insisting that it could lead them to eliminate their job prospects.

Béart elaborated on the ramifications of replacing human performances with AI:

“We have an industry of highly artistic people who’ve had a calling to do this stuff. The dream of the tech industry is to sell off your company at an overinflated price and retire, and I feel that’s being done with game studios right now.”

At a time when the gaming sector grapples with the potential ramifications of AI, her warnings resonate deeply, underscoring the need for a balance between innovation and preserving artistic value.
