Wizards of the Coast Allegedly Halts Development of Major Game

Recent reports indicate that Wizards of the Coast has canceled a highly anticipated game project.

Wizards of the Coast has reportedly canceled a AAA game that was being developed by Skeleton Key. Not much was known about the title, including its name, but it was anticipated that this project published by Wizards of the Coast would be a horror game.

Skeleton Key is a AAA studio formed by Wizards of the Coast in 2022. Soon after the announcement, it was revealed that Charles Boyd would join Skeleton Key as one of the leaders of the project. Boyd was known as the creative director of Star Wars: The Old Republic, and departed from BioWare in early 2022. Another BioWare veteran, Christian Dailey, joined the studio the same year. Ever since then, not much has been revealed about the mysterious AAA project developed by Skeleton Key aside from hints that it would be a horror game, and the studio has been very silent over the years.

This is not the first time Wizards of the Coast canceled unannounced games. Back in 2023, Wizards of the Coast canceled five unannounced titles resulting in layoffs. Fortunately, this latest cancellation does not necessarily mean that Wizards of the Coast isn’t developing any new games. Reports from 2024 indicated that Wizards of the Coast’s owner, Hasbro, still has plans for more Dungeons and Dragons video games following the remarkable success of Baldur’s Gate 3.
