Valve has just launched the Team Fortress 2 SDK, enabling developers to create new games based on the classic title that has been a favorite since its release in 2007.
This SDK represents a significant update to the Source SDK, providing comprehensive client and server game code. This will allow modders to modify or completely revamp Team Fortress 2, stepping beyond the limitations of the Steam Workshop. Valve stated, “Unlike the Steam Workshop or local content mods, this SDK gives mod makers the ability to change, extend or rewrite TF2, making anything from small tweaks to complete conversions possible.”
Developers will operate under a non-commercial license that allows free publication on Steam. Valve encourages mod creators to respect the contributions of the TF2 community and avoid profiting from their work.
Additionally, Valve is rolling out updates to all Source engine multiplayer games to improve support and scalability, continuing its commitment to enhancing player experience.
For fans looking to dive into game development, this SDK may just be the tool they’ve been waiting for.
