David Grivel Returns to Helm the Splinter Cell Remake

David Grivel, having previously left Ubisoft, rejoins as the director for the much-discussed Splinter Cell remake, reigniting interest in the project.

David Grivel, who left Ubisoft in 2022 seeking a “new adventure,” is back in the director’s seat for the Splinter Cell remake. Following his departure, Grivel spent time at Electronic Arts, contributing to Battlefield 6 until the studio faced closure. After a brief stint with other companies, Grivel has rejoined Ubisoft Toronto, signaling renewed hope for the long-anticipated remake.

“Today, I am very, VERY happy to announce that I’m rejoining Ubisoft Toronto as Game Director on the Splinter Cell Remake!”

This return comes at a critical time for Ubisoft, which is navigating a complex landscape filled with financial and operational challenges. Grivel’s announcement ends years of uncertainty concerning the game and indicates at least some continuity in the project despite the turbulence.

Fans had long awaited updates on the remake, which had gone quiet post Grivel’s initial departure announcement. His reappointment, while potentially a fresh start, is also a reminder of the game’s rocky journey thus far.
