Arc Raiders Won't Feature a First-Person Mode: Development Insights
Design director Virgil Watkins discusses the challenges of implementing a first-person mode in Arc Raiders, highlighting the game's reliance on a third-person perspective.
In a recent interview, Arc Raiders’ design director Virgil Watkins expressed that creating a first-person mode might not be feasible. According to him, crafting such a mode would demand significant resources and adjustments to the game’s design and asset quality, which are optimized for a third-person view.
Key Points:
- Third-Person Focus: Watkins emphasized that the game’s structure is fundamentally built around a third-person perspective. Transitioning to a first-person view would not add substantial advantages in gameplay.
- Technical Limitations: He explained that the game assets would falter when viewed up close in a first-person mode. “Once you start being able to put your face right up against an asset, it kind of falls apart,” he noted, underlining the challenges faced in this transition.
Despite potential demand from players for a first-person perspective, Watkins stated that the chances of adding this feature are ‘very, very implausible’.
