Final Fantasy Composer Rejects AI for Music Creation

Nobuo Uematsu, renowned for his work in the Final Fantasy series, expresses his disinterest in using AI for music composition, citing the vital role of human imperfections in artistry.

In a candid interview with JASRAC Magazine, Nobuo Uematsu, famous for composing music for the Final Fantasy series, firmly stated, “I’ve never used AI and probably never will … music produced by people is unstable, and everyone does it in their own unique way. And what makes it sound so satisfying are precisely those fluctuations and imperfections.”
He highlighted concerns regarding the industry trend towards homogenized compositions, remarking that current AI technologies could hinder artists from expressing their individuality. In his statement, Uematsu encouraged musicians not to settle for generic auditory production, as he perceives a lack of innovation in contemporary video game music, often attributed to the influence of Hollywood-style soundtracks.
