In Mina the Hollower, “limitations are what provide the fun.”
Yacht Club Games, renowned for its hit Shovel Knight, is set to release a new title that aims to channel a classic gaming vibe without the modern staple of parrying mechanics. The studio’s co-founder, Sean Velasco, remarked that the game’s control scheme is designed to simplify gameplay by drawing inspiration from classic titles like Castlevania and Bloodborne.
“There are limitations, but the limitations are what provide the fun,” Velasco noted. “Every game has a parry now. I played that new Doom, and even Doom has Dark Souls stuff in it… We didn’t want to do something with a simple dodge-roll. We try to take something old and rejig it, do something interesting with it.”
The release date for Mina the Hollower is yet to be announced but can be wishlisted on Steam.
