Developers from Hearthstone and Warcraft Rumble Unite for Union Rights
Blizzard employees continue their struggle for workforce rights as more developers join the union.
Workers at Blizzard are taking significant steps in uniting for their rights. Following the layoffs of the Warcraft Rumble team, many remain committed to their roles, and have voted to unionize alongside Hearthstone devs. Together, they join over 1,900 Blizzard employees organized under the Communications Workers of America (CWA).
The CWA has announced the formation of this new group with a focus on securing fair treatment for all members, including software engineers, artists, and quality assurance testers. This action comes shortly after the Diablo team’s unionization, demonstrating the growing urgency for workforce solidarity and fairness in the gaming industry.
“My coworkers, as individuals, have voiced many concerns over the years, but it is easy for any company to ignore individuals.” – Dominic Calkosz, Game Designer
The recent waves of unionization reflect ongoing unrest among Blizzard employees, spurred by mass layoffs and a desire for work-life balance in the wake of Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard. With the CWA advocating for these developers, the call for change in cultural and labor practices within the gaming industry is louder than ever.
