'I Did Not Walk Away': Former Assassin's Creed Head Addresses His Exit from Ubisoft

Marc-Alexis Cote clarifies the context surrounding his departure from Ubisoft amidst rumors and speculation.

Following the news of his departure from Ubisoft, former Assassin’s Creed chief Marc-Alexis Cote aims to clarify the circumstances surrounding his exit, disputing initial narratives that indicated he chose to leave. Recently, Ubisoft has faced significant changes, particularly with the establishment of Vantage Studios, which now oversees various key franchises.

Despite the success of Assassin’s Creed Shadows, the future appears uncertain as the franchise navigates the transition characterized by Cote’s departure. Initial impressions suggested that he left on good terms, causing disappointment among members of Ubisoft’s leadership, including Charlie Guillemot and Christophe Derennes. However, renewed insights from Cote challenge that perspective.

Marc-Alexis Cote Claims to Have Been Pushed Out By Ubisoft

In a recent post on his LinkedIn profile, Cote elaborates on the ongoing narrative since the announcement. He asserts that he did not voluntarily leave Ubisoft or the franchise he holds dear. Cote explains that Ubisoft merely reassigned the leadership of Assassin’s Creed to someone more aligned with its current organizational structure. He added that although he was offered a new role, it lacked the same level of responsibility as his previous position as the franchise head.

Furthermore, Cote reiterated his appreciation for Ubisoft, expressing no resentment regarding how matters concluded. He asserted that he remained until the leadership requested his departure, as the future of Assassin’s Creed now lies in uncharted territory with Vantage Studios at the helm. Amid new developments like the upcoming Assassin’s Creed Mirage: Valley of Memory DLC, the franchise’s future remains a topic of keen interest.
