Battlefield 6 Developer Discusses Allure of Generative AI

DICE's VP highlights the potential positive impacts of generative AI on game development while asserting no such assets are currently in Battlefield 6.

One high-ranking member of the Battlefield 6 development team has discussed the prospective benefits of generative AI in game development, hinting at possible future advancements. Players of Battlefield 6 will not encounter any game assets generated directly by AI, but significant shifts may be on the horizon for DICE and EA.

Despite not utilizing any AI-generated content in the final game, Rebecka Coutaz, the vice president and general manager of DICE and Criterion Games, expressed admiration for generative AI, describing it as ‘very seducing.’ In a recent conversation with the BBC, she noted that the absence of generative AI’s implementation wasn’t due to ethical concerns; rather, there isn’t a suitable process to adopt it in the developers’ routine workflows.

Coutaz emphasized that while generative AI served a purpose in the preliminary phases of development, it did not forge any of the game’s maps, characters, or weaponry players can interact with. This was aimed at affording the creative team the time and flexibility needed to tackle other facets of game design.

Published on October 10, 2025, Battlefield 6 recently achieved a remarkable peak of over 747,000 concurrent players on Steam shortly after launch, alongside impressive statistics on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. This enthusiasm is underpinned by its extensive testing phases, which recorded an astonishing 420 million matches played across more than 92 million hours of gaming.

The ongoing conversation around AI’s role in gaming continues to evolve, with industry experts recognizing both the innovative potential it offers and the scrutiny it faces from various segments of the gaming community.
