Epic Games has announced that it has taken action against thousands of players for misusing the newly added proximity voice chat feature in Fortnite, particularly in its latest mode Delulu. Since the game’s launch in 2017, Epic Games has made regular updates to improve the gameplay experience for players. This includes the introduction of new features and mechanics intended to enrich engagement.
One such update released on September 19 introduced the problematic voice chat feature in Delulu mode. In this mode, players no longer use the traditional Battle Bus mechanics; instead, they can engage in solo matches where they can form temporary teams using voice chat to strategize or even turn against their own teammates.
Players Facing Bans for Toxicity
On Twitter, the company confirmed that thousands were banned for using the chat feature to spread hate speech and insults. Instructions have been provided for players on how to report abusive behavior, emphasizing Epic Games’ commitment to maintaining a healthy gaming environment.
Players have been vocal about their experiences with the voice chat, with some enjoying positive interactions while others detected instances of toxicity, especially directed towards female gamers. Feedback has included reports of targeted harassment in voice chats during gameplay.
In response to the ongoing issues surrounding harassment, Epic Games has yet to release a detailed statement but is expected to make the Delulu mode available again shortly, running from September 26 to September 29, with prizes for those who manage to secure wins.
