After facing legal action, Aspyr has decided to remove AI-generated content from the upcoming remastered version of the Tomb Raider series.

Aspyr has removed AI-generated content from Tomb Raider IV-VI Remastered following a lawsuit related to its integration. The use of AI in games has become more prevalent, though it often sparks debate. In this instance, it has led not only to criticism but also to legal consequences.

In early 2024, the original Tomb Raider trilogy was remastered and generally received well. Aspyr then planned a follow-up with the next three in 2025, but faced backlash and lower review scores than expected. The ongoing controversy involves allegations against Aspyr concerning unauthorized use of AI technology to replicate the voice of Lara Croft’s French voice actor, Françoise Cadol.

An update on Aspyr’s support website revealed they were “removing all AI voiceover content” from the game. Cadol learned about the AI replication after fans informed her post an update in August 2025, sparking a legal response seeking compensation based on the sales of the remastered collection.

The original updates that included AI might have added new voice lines that were more noticeable to players. The implications of this AI removal on the ongoing legal case still remain unclear, though it has stirred controversy in the gaming community. Other titles have faced similar challenges with increasing scrutiny over the use of AI in content creation.
