NSFW Game Developer Claims Valve Restricts Adult Content Updates to DLC Only
The developers of an NSFW game state that Valve has imposed new restrictions limiting adult content additions to downloadable content (DLC) rather than updates.
The game titled Tales of Legendary Lust: Aphrodisia is facing new challenges in light of pressing constraints. According to a developer at Crimson Delight, they now find themselves unable to incorporate new adult-themed content in their game updates, as these would now need to be packaged as DLC.
This change follows the increased pressure from the anti-porn group, Collective Shout, which has sought to enforce stricter policies on adult content across platforms. The developers have noted, “Previously, developers could update their NSFW games post-launch, but recent changes mean that’s no longer feasible. Instead, we have to create separate DLC packages.”
Despite these challenges, the developer expressed appreciation for the transparency of Valve’s review process, while still noting the constrains under which Steam must operate due to external pressures. Valve’s approach continues to balance between securing revenue from adult games and adhering to stricter content regulations.
The overall transitions within adult game development emphasize a shift to a more segmented approach, posing potential hurdles for developers who traditionally rely on continuous updates in response to fare decisions made by communities.
The situation illustrates the ongoing tension between the adult gaming sector and external regulatory pressures, highlighting the fragility of the current ecosystem.
