Customers in the US will soon see an increase in the price of the Xbox console due to ongoing tariffs between the US and China. Microsoft has announced that the new pricing for all Xbox Series X and Series S consoles will come into effect on October 3, with the Xbox Series S 512GB starting at $399, up from the current price of $379.
The price change is largely attributed to tariffs imposed during the Trump administration, which have affected the gaming industry worldwide. Although some companies have shifted production to countries like Vietnam and India, many have resorted to raising prices in global markets to counter the economic impact. This trend follows similar price increases from Sony and Nintendo for their consoles.
Despite a previous price hike in May 2025, Microsoft will again raise consumer costs ahead of the holiday season. As confirmed on its support website, the recommended retail price (MSRP) for Xbox consoles will rise due to “changes in the macroeconomic environment.” The new prices for Xbox Series S and X systems will be as follows:
Console | Current Price (Sept 19) | New Price (Oct 3) |
---|---|---|
Xbox Series S 512GB | $379.99 | $399.99 |
Xbox Series S 1TB | $429.99 | $449.99 |
Xbox Series X Digital | $549.99 | $599.99 |
Xbox Series X | $599.99 | $649.99 |
Xbox Series X 2TB Galaxy Black SE | $729.99 | $799.99 |
With just two weeks before the price increase takes effect, consumers looking to purchase new Xbox systems are urged to act quickly. This price adjustment will be implemented before the anticipated launch of the ROG Xbox Ally handheld system on October 16, though prices for the new device remain unknown.
Microsoft has also clarified that the upcoming changes will apply only to new console sales, as all current Xbox controller and accessory prices will remain unchanged for now.
