Nintendo Switch 2 Reaches Remarkable Sales Milestone
The Nintendo Switch 2 has surpassed two million unit sales in Japan, continuing its momentum in the console market.
The Nintendo Switch 2 has set a notable sales record by selling over two million units in Japan. Recent sales figures indicate that the Nintendo Switch 2 is outshining other consoles in current sales.
The Nintendo Switch 2 has been off to a stellar start, even exceeding the original Switch’s sales. Major titles are on the way for the Switch 2, including Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, Pokemon Legends: Z-A, and Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment, potentially propelling sales further.
According to Famitsu, the Switch 2 leads hardware sales in Japan and has recently crossed the 2 million sales mark nationwide. This figure represents a significant rate compared to the six million units sold worldwide, showcasing that Japan has captured a third of total sales. Notably, the system reached this milestone in the US less than a month earlier, in late August 2025. The Switch 2 is outpacing rivals, moving approximately 44,000 units in just one week in Japan, contrasting with the Switch OLED and PlayStation 5, which each sold 10,000.
In Japan, the Switch 2 has more than doubled the sales of the PlayStation 5 Digital Edition and outperformed the PlayStation 5 Pro by eight times. Nevertheless, it still needs to sell nearly 4 million units to catch up to the PlayStation 5’s total sales, marking Sony’s dominance in the home market. However, if the Switch 2 continues its current growth trajectory, it may close that gap in the future.
It remains to be seen if the Switch 2 can replicate the original Switch’s success and maintain steady sales momentum. With a range of solid game releases planned for 2025 and 2026, sales figures are expected to keep rising. Nintendo is reportedly facing challenges in meeting the demand for the Switch 2 in Japan, indicating even greater potential sales figures if supply issues are resolved.
