Borderlands 4 has become the best-selling game on Steam, reaching a peak of 288,130 concurrent players. Despite significant framerate issues, Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford has expressed confidence in the stability of the game’s servers, challenging players to log on and attempt to overload them.
“I know there have been some high profile backend online systems failing around big AAA game launches, but not this one,” Pitchford stated on Twitter. He emphasized his belief in the server’s resilience, asserting, “It’s going to be VERY unlikely you guys can be enough people to break the backend and take our game down.”
In a gesture of goodwill, he promised that anyone who participates will receive access to the Break Free cosmetics pack. “Even if they don’t break, players who jump in this weekend will get access to the Break Free cosmetics pack,” he added.
Overall, the situation reflects Gearbox’s efforts to engage with their community while promoting the new game’s features.
