Battlefield 6 Developers Embrace Playtest Leaks for Player Feedback

Developers from Battlefield 6 acknowledge the inevitability of leaks during playtests but prioritize player feedback over secrecy.

Game developers typically despise leaks, but the team at Ripple Effect, formerly known as DICE LA, made a strategic choice regarding Battlefield 6. Christian Buhl, the Technical Director, stated, “We were not seeking leaks, but we recognized that the most critical aspect was to have players engaged and provide genuine feedback.” The choice to accept inevitable leaks was made in favor of transparency and player interaction. During discussions, Buhl mentioned, “We prioritized getting the game out to players over keeping secrets. Feedback is essential, especially when vying against established competitors like Call of Duty.”

Leaked content tends to generate excitement, which traditional marketing often cannot achieve. Therefore, developers see the benefits of exposing the game early despite the leaks. Buhl notes that having leaks from the Battlefield Labs program was a necessary trade-off for enhancing player experience.
