Borderlands 4 Debuts with Predominantly Negative User Reviews on Steam Due to Performance Issues

The launch of Borderlands 4 sees a surge in players despite significant criticism over its performance problems.

Borderlands 4 has officially launched today, receiving mixed reactions primarily due to performance challenges reported by players on Steam.

While the game has attracted a large number of concurrent players—over 192,000 as recorded—its average rating on Steam is ‘mostly negative’. The primary complaints involve lagging frame rates and frequent crashes, even when graphical settings are lowered.

One reviewer noted: “Terrible, terrible performance. Worst I’ve ever seen. I couldn’t hit 60 FPS, even with FSR upscaling on my RX 6900 XT.” Furthermore, players reported issues like zone loading delays affecting gameplay enjoyment.

Despite the negative reviews, many gamers are experiencing the fun and chaotic gameplay that the Borderlands franchise is known for. Transparently, many anticipated improvements through a recent patch, although initial experiences were seemingly less than optimal.

As more players dive into this title, it will be essential to monitor Gearbox’s responses and potential updates to address these performance concerns.
