MachineGames Pondered the Inclusion of Hitler in Wolfenstein 2

Developers at MachineGames considered a shocking element for Wolfenstein 2: the portrayal of Adolf Hitler in an unexpected way.

In the second episode of the Noclip documentary series on MachineGames, developers discussed an unexpected idea they had for Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus. It involved including a graphic moment featuring Adolf Hitler.

In the game, protagonist BJ Blazkowicz infiltrates a Nazi base on Venus by auditioning for a propaganda film. During this scene, tension escalated when it was revealed Hitler was the producer, resulting in a Tarantino-like confrontation.

Studio head Jerk Gustafsson shared, “We actually wanted to add another element; we wanted to show Hitler’s penis when he was peeing, but we felt that was a bit too much and decided against it.”

Co-founder Jens Matthies elaborated, stating the intent was to present Hitler as a physically repulsive character. However, a conversation with a Bethesda executive curbed this idea when questioned about the implications of such a depiction. They agreed it might be best to skip that detail, emphasizing the need to know where to draw the line.

The key takeaway was the balance between shock value and appropriateness in narrative storytelling.
