IO Interactive Hesitant to Publish More Games Following MindsEye's Troubled Launch
MindsEye has faced criticism and poor reception following its release, leading IO Interactive's CEO to express reluctance to partner with other studios in the future.
MindsEye’s launch has certainly stirred up controversy, marking a challenging start for IO Interactive’s first third-party game. The game has been met with poor sales and a Mostly Negative rating on Steam, prompting layoffs at developer Build a Rocket Boy.
Amidst the turmoil, accusations have arisen from its co-CEOs, with Leslie Benzies attributing the game’s struggles to “internal and external saboteurs.” Similarly, Mark Gerhard’s comments in a recent Discord discussion suggested that negative feedback might have been orchestrated by someone with financial backing.
Given this difficult context, IOI’s CEO, Hakan Abrak, appears cautious about future collaborations. In a recent interview with IGN, he described the game’s reception as “tough.”
