Firaxis Games Announces Layoffs Amidst Development Changes for Civilization 7

In a move focusing on restructuring, Firaxis Games has confirmed layoffs tied to the ongoing challenges with Civilization 7's performance.

As Civilization 7 continues to struggle with its performance, Firaxis Games has officially confirmed that a number of employees have been laid off. The layoffs were reported earlier by Emma Kidwell, a writer on Civilization 7, who indicated her situation on social media, stating, “I was laid off from Firaxis this morning… I’m available for full-time, remote work starting ASAP.”

A spokesperson from 2K Games verified the staffing changes, explaining that the studio is restructuring to optimize its development process for better adaptability and creativity. However, the specific number of layoffs remains undisclosed.

The game has faced mixed reviews and continues to lag behind previous installments in terms of player engagement, highlighting ongoing challenges for the developer as it adapts to the competitive landscape within the gaming industry. Despite these setbacks, 2K and Firaxis reiterated their commitment to making Civilization 7 a success with ongoing updates and patches.
