'Legality is not the defining factor': Anti-porn group claims it targets disapproved games regardless of legality

The Australian anti-porn organization Collective Shout explains its philosophy behind pressuring platforms to remove certain adult games.

Collective Shout, an Australian anti-porn organization, claims a recent victory in pressuring payment processors to remove adult games from Steam. The group’s founders argue that legality does not determine whether they target a game; instead, they focus on the potential harm to women and girls. Caitlin Roper, the organization’s campaigns manager, stated, “Our work focuses on combatting the sexual objectification and exploitation of women and girls, so we focus our energy there. That said, we call out this objectification and abusive depictions of women and girls even where they are not illegal.” This statement underlines their mission to combat media that they perceive as harmful, regardless of the legality of its content.
