The eagerly awaited Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 is set to include split-screen functionality, but it will not be available for the co-op campaign mode. This forthcoming installment is the first to introduce a co-op campaign feature since Black Ops 3, which was released in 2015. Following that, the series has seen games focus on either single-player experiences or, as with Black Ops 4, the omission of a campaign entirely.
Currently, much of the promotional material for Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 has been dedicated to showcasing its campaign, with trailers highlighting the comeback of popular characters and establishing its position as a direct sequel to the acclaimed Black Ops 2. While the game will offer a 4-player co-op mode for its campaign, the disappointing news is that split-screen gameplay will not be featured.
Co-Op Campaign Lacks Split-Screen
Game Rant contacted Activision for insights regarding the inclusion of split-screen support in the co-op campaign of Call of Duty: Black Ops 7. It has been confirmed that Black Ops 7 will not support split-screen in its campaign mode. Players can participate solo or online, which some may find disappointing, especially since split-screen co-op was available in Black Ops 3. At least the feature continues to be retained in other game modes.
Split-Screen Possibilities Remain
The official support page for Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 does indicate that there will be split-screen support within specific functionalities. Black Ops 6 featured this option in its Zombies and multiplayer modes, suggesting a similar approach may be applied to Black Ops 7. Therefore, while the co-op campaign misses out on split-screen play, players can still expect some local cooperative gameplay in alternative modes.
More detailed updates about the game’s various modes will be released in a few weeks. The big Call of Duty NEXT reveal event is set for September 30, where insights regarding Black Ops 7’s Zombies and multiplayer modes will be disclosed.
Fans eager to try the multiplayer mode before its official launch on November 14 can participate in the early access beta starting October 2 for pre-orders and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate/PC Game Pass subscribers, with public access available from October 5 to 8.
