Utilizing AMD's New SDK to Integrate FSR 4 into Games Running FSR 3

A new method allows gamers to apply AMD's FSR 4 technology into games that run on FSR 3, using a straightforward process involving DLSS Swapper and file modifications.

With the launch of AMD’s RDNA 4 GPU architecture and its FSR 4 technology, AMD introduced significant enhancements to its upscaling capabilities using machine learning. However, accessing FSR 4 requires developers to incorporate it into their titles.

Recent insights show a workaround using the latest FidelityFX SDK, enabling players to independently integrate FSR 4 through a tool known as DLSS Swapper. This utility allows users to modify DLL files within a game’s directory, making it possible to swap out FSR 3 for FSR 4.

Steps to Implement FSR 4:

  1. Download and install DLSS Swapper.
  2. Obtain AMD’s FidelityFX SDK and extract the files.
  3. Navigate to the Kits\FidelityFX\signedbin\ folder.
  4. Rename amd_fidelityfx_upscaler_dx12.dll to amd_fidelityfx_dx12.dll.
  5. Open DLSS Swapper, select FSR 3.1 DirectX 12, and import your modified DLL.
  6. Your game should now have FSR 4 listed in its options.

Important Note:

Be cautious as modifying DLLs does not guarantee that your GPU will support FSR 4; it’s crucial that your hardware is compatible. Initial tests have mainly confirmed these methods working with a limited selection of titles.
