NetEase Shuts Down Studio Led by Veteran Developer Rich Vogel Before Launching Any Games
T-Minus Zero, founded by Rich Vogel, is closed just two years after its establishment due to NetEase's reassessment of business priorities.
T-Minus Zero Entertainment, the studio founded by the veteran MMO developer Rich Vogel, has closed its doors just two years after its establishment and without having released a product. NetEase informed Game Developer that it has had to “reassess our business priorities,” leading to the closure of the studio.
The announcement of T-Minus Zero’s closure was first made by Vogel on LinkedIn, where he mentioned that “every journey has its twists and turns, and ours with NetEase is coming to an end.” Vogel expressed appreciation for NetEase, highlighting their support and collaboration. However, he noted that current market conditions have hindered their ability to secure necessary funding.
Additionally, the studio aimed to develop a “third-person online multiplayer action game set in a sci-fi universe.” Unfortunately, this vision will not come to fruition.
Finding developers like Vogel interested in new projects might now be a challenge, as he encouraged others in the industry to connect with potential openings. The decision to close T-Minus Zero is the third closure of a western studio by NetEase in the past year.
